Budgeting is a sensitive topic for most people and we understand that it requires high levels of trust from clients.
FinCap is building a set of standards of practice for budgeting and financial capability services to ensure the safety and well-being of clients. To that end, a Quality Assurance Working Group has been formed.

The idea of a Quality Assurance Working Group (QAWG) was formed at the point of development of the National Building Financial Capability Charitable Trust (NBFCCT) 2017/18 operational plan. It was refined and further progressed following engagement over subsequent months, and finally a request for registration of interest communicated through NBFCCT Pānui. All local agency registrations of interest were welcomed and accepted as well as ensuring a mix of service providers – MSD funded, unfunded, kaupapa Māori whānau-centred and Pacific led services.
A total of eleven people make up the Working Group including nine services, MSD and FinCap and a Terms of Reference outlining how the QAWG will work agreed.
FinCap and MSD have an Outcome Agreement requiring key deliverables including the development of a Quality Assurance Framework.
What the framework looks like and its key components have formed the mahi of the group.
Next steps are to consult on the draft framework with local agencies nationwide utilising the October/November 2018 regional hui being held across the country followed by testing and implementation.
